Sports are a big part of UAB, but not everyone has the opportunity to play a NCAA-sanctioned sport.
For the students who crave competition, fun, relaxation and athleticism without the hassle of long practices and screaming coaches, there is a solution.
Intramurals at UAB are campus-wide and open to all students.
Ranging from sports like volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, and ultimate frisbee to individual activities like bowling, badminton, and tennis, UAB intramural sports are extrcurricular sporting activities put on by the Campus Recreation Center. Students can form or join a sports team purely for the fun and relaxation of competing and bonding with fellow UAB students.
Intramurals are played in the fall, spring and summer seasons, with most sports seasons capping off with playoffs and an intramural championship.
The championship winners win the coveted championship T-shirts, as well as a marker on the intramurals plaque, to be remembered for years to come.
Intramurals are also a great way to relieve the stress of schoolwork and to keep active and involved on campus.
Most intramural players compete once a week, and practice times can be arranged via the campus Recreation Center or just a quick team meeting outside on the campus Green.
Get away from the stress of tests and long study hours. Get a group of your friends together for seven-on-seven flag football or a game of Frisbee.
The key to surviving college is to not let school completely own your life. College is what you make it, and getting involved is key to having an amazing college experience. Intramurals is just another great option.
For more information, the 2011-2012 Intramurals schedule is posted in the Recreation Center.
