Baseball is back!!!! That?s right folks, break out those peanuts and jacks that are in cracker form because baseball is here to consume you for the rest of the summer. What better way to really get the season rolling then to take a look back at some of the most exciting moments of the first week of the season. Because as we know, the first week ALWAYS is an accurate representation of how the season will play out. So, here are some of the most exciting events from the first week of the baseball season as selected by a panel of experts that only includes myself.
?
Yu Darvish?s Near Perfect Game:
I was able to catch this game on TV starting around the 5th inning and the most astounding part of the coverage was the announcers talking about how Darvish?s pitch count might keep him away from the perfect game. So ridiculous that this whole pitch count thing has come to a point where that would even be discussed. Anyway, I really wanted Darvish to get the perfect game (even if it would be against the lowly Astros) but yet I cheered rather heartily when he didn?t. A pitcher losing his perfect game on the very last batter of the game is just about as crazy as a perfect game itself and less probable.
Terrible Actual Yu Darvish Headlines:
ESPN.com ?Oh no Yu Didn?t?
FoxSports.com ?Yu Blew It!?
NBCSports ?Not What Yu Expected?
MLB.com ?In case Yu missed it..?

Evan Gattis hits first Homer while his dad is being interviewed:
See the video here because YouTube doesn?t have any videos of this: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=25977639&c_id=mlb&topic_id=vtp_fan_clips
I?m not generally one for ?emotional? moments. But that was pretty sweet timing on Gattis?s part.
?
Upton Brothers Go Long:
Not much for me to add. How cool is that? Brothers both hitting home runs to win the game in the last inning. Fairly cool.
?
AJ Burnett antiques himself on April Fool?s Day:
?
Other notable things from week one:
- Josh Hamilton getting booed in his Texas return
- The Yankees are old
- Speaking of old, John Lackey injures his arm in his first start in a return season
- Hyun-Jin Ryu?s awesomely pitiful run to first base
?
Now to the most important people of opening week, the fans. Of course they didn?t disappoint.
Crazy bat wielding Toronto fan:
How great is this. I was watching this game live on TV and I could?t stop laughing.
?
Rangers fan gets lucky?twice?:
If that isn?t an incentive to catch a foul ball I don?t know what would be.
?
Another terrible Boyfriend:
I don?t know if this is actually a boyfriend but still, negative man points for this guy either way.
?
Reds kid reaction to foul ball:
This video has all kinds of comedy. Most notably of course the kids very animated reaction, but also the random lady haphazardly clapping at nothing. If only I could find a better quality video.
?
Dad catches ball while holding baby:
?
It?s not MLB but this happened in Taiwan this last week also:
Those announcers know how to treat a home run something proper in Taiwan. I assume anyway? I don?t know what they are saying but they sure are excited!
