Image

We'll take a dedicated microsite over ole Mr. Blurrycam any day of the week. HTC's latest Verizon LTE handset is now an Incredible step closer to being official. The HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE has popped up on Big Red's Droid Does site, complete with specs and a $300 on-contract price tag. The ICS smartphone will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with a gig of RAM, and packs a 4-inch super LCD qHD display, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with a VGA shooter up front, an LTE hotspot mode with support for up to 10 devices and Beats Audio on board for "studio-quality sound." The Buy Now link brings you to the Droid RAZR Maxx's product page, so it's not quite clear when you'll be able to pick up an Incredible. You can take a closer look right now, however, at the elaborate dedicated Verizon page at our source link below.

FCC begins tracking wireless carriers' implementation of bill shock notifications

FCC begins tracking wireless carriers' implementation of bill shock notifications

If you've ever mistaken your wireless bill for your phone number, only to discover a dollar sign in front of all those digits, you're far from alone. The CTIA estimates that one in six mobile subscribers have experienced bill shock, but thanks to the efforts of the nation's wireless carriers -- along with a bit of help from the FCC -- consumers will start to receive notifications of any potential overages, along with alerts when the threshold has been crossed. The program is still in its infancy, but the FCC has launched a website to track wireless carriers' implementation of the notification system, which will alert consumers to any voice, data, SMS or international roaming charges. Carriers have until October 17th to have alerts for at least two of these categories in place, and will have until April 17th of next year to implement all four. Consumers may track the monthly progress of individual carriers at the FCC's bill shock website, but for a current peek at their progress, just hop the break.

Bella KillerKeys brings desktops shortcuts and control to iOS for $20, we go hands-on (video)

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/bella-killerkeys-for-ios-hands-on/

Creative types working their magic on Windows may already be familiar with KillerKeys, a desktop app that brings push-button control to most Adobe apps, Microsoft Office, Sony Vegas and a few others, letting you tap a preset action rather than digging through a multi-layer menu or remembering hundreds of keyboard shortcuts -- if you use any of these apps as part of your workflow, the $10 (and up) investment certainly seems to be worthwhile. Now, Bella, the company behind KillerKeys, is bringing the tool to iOS (the iPad, more specifically), letting you tap your intentions on your tab, rather than using the mouse to click around the desktop.

You can group buttons by function, and the panel adjusts automatically to match the current app -- there's also an application launcher available at the bottom corners of the display, which helps to minimize your mouse time. To that end, you'll also find an on-screen trackpad (which unfortunately wasn't functional during the company's demo at NAB), and once it's enabled you'll be able to reposition your pointer from the tablet, letting you hide that cumbersome mouse. Initially, the app will only be available for iOS when it ships next month, though an Android version is in the works, as is a Mac OS version of KillerKeys, which should launch with the iPad app. The mobile application will set you back $10, and you'll also need to pick up a copy of KillerKeys, which ranges in price from $10 for a home and student addition to $90 for the whole shebang. Check out the hands-on demo after the break.

Canadian Business Blog ? Blog Archive ? Why Venture Capital is so ...

Greg Smith, president of Canada?s Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA), described the current landscape of Canadian entrepreneurship:

?Canada has an historic opportunity to become an innovation leader by making major investments that enable our best technology businesses to realize optimal growth and compete on a global stage,? he said in a statement. ?However, in order to act decisively on this opportunity, we must first overcome challenges to supplying VC funds that, in turn, supply entrepreneurs.?

Without VC initiatives, small companies with big ideas are being caged by cash crunch ? running low enough on cash so that it has a significant impact on operations. Exponential growth can also cause a company to be short on working capital. Business growth requires a steady cash flow, enabling the acquisition of equipment and personnel. Lacking VC, companies may be forced to unload assets or sell a part of the business to raise crucial funds.

The cheapest forms of financing are the sources taken for granted:

-????????? Cash in bank account

-????????? Revenue from sales

-????????? Financing from tangible assets (accounts receivable factoring, purchase order factoring).

Aside from borrowing from friends and family, the next funding options come from cost-heavy debt or equity financing. Debt financing directs small businesses to traditional institutions, banks and credit unions, and many small businesses run into trouble meeting financing prerequisites. Equity financing or ?share capital? ? funding through selling common or preferred stock to individual or institutional investors ? is dilutive in nature and requires loss of ownership and possibly control of the business.

In order to get to an operable stage, small businesses can also consider bridge financing and financing from intangible assets. Bridge financing is used to gain immediate cash flow while waiting for an expected inflow of cash. Basically bridge financing provides a forwarded payment for future sales or anticipated inflow of cash. Financing on intangible assets, such as SR&ED (Canada?s Scientific Research and Experimental Development credit program), is not often offered by the traditional institutions but is a non-dilutive form of bridge financing. North Innovation Fund (NIF) is one such source of funding, providing accrual SR&ED financing to support small business and entrepreneurs. NIF released their first Fund this month in response to the increasing demand of funding alternatives for start-up companies in Canada. SR&ED financing will bridge the funding gap for companies with R&D initiatives and new ideas to help make the leap to commercialization.

NIF offers a unique opportunity which includes support in identifying SR&ED activities and a friendly approach to funding. Initiatives like NIF will help push Canada to forefront of growth and innovation.

Facebook leaning toward Nasdaq, reports say

NEW YORK (AP) ? Facebook will list its shares with Nasdaq, according to media reports.

That would be a big win for the Nasdaq, which competes fiercely with NYSE Euronext Inc., especially for an initial public offering as large as Facebook's, pegged at $5 billion.

The New York Times and CNBC cited anonymous sources on the potential listing.

Calls to Facebook and Nasdaq OMX Group, Inc. were not immediately returned Friday.

Part of the reason the Nasdaq is considered the more attractive option for Facebook is because of the Internet heavyweights already listed there, which include Apple Inc., Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp.

NYSE snared LinkedIn Corp.'s IPO last year. The professional networking site doubled its IPO price in its first day of trading in May 2011 to give it a market value of nearly $9 billion. It was the largest for any Internet company since Google had its IPO in 2004.

Facebook Inc. is in another economic sphere. In papers filed in early February, it was disclosed that Facebook's IPO could place the value of the Menlo, Park, Calif. company at $100 billion. That would make it one of the world's most valuable companies eight years after it began as a dorm-room startup at Harvard University.

If Facebook can raise $5 billion by selling a small percentage of its shares to the public, as is expected, it will dwarf all preceding Internet IPOs. The final tally will shift with Facebook's bankers gauging demand for those shares on Wall Street.

Joining corporate America's elite would give Facebook financial clout as it tries to make its service even more pervasive and expand its global audience of about 845 million users. It also could help Facebook fend off a challenge from Google, which wants to rival Facebook as with its own social networking system.

Following the model of Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg set up two classes of stock that will ensure he retains control of Facebook as the sometimes conflicting demands of Wall Street exert new pressures on the company. He will have the final say on how nearly 57 percent of Facebook's stock votes, according to the company's February filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission.

A number of big-name tech companies have gone public in recent months. Among them: Groupon Inc., Pandora Media Inc. and Zynga Inc., which has close ties to Facebook.

Facebook is expected to begin trading under the ticker "FB" in either May or June.
