Best Buy will sell its half of European arm to Carphone Warehouse for $775 million

As Best Buy attempts a return to financial well-being, it's decided to sell the 50 percent share it still owns in Best Buy Europe to fellow joint venture partner Carphone Warehouse. The price is set at about 500 million GBP ($775 million, mostly in cash) and is expected to close by June. Best Buy paid $2.15 billion for its share of the business back in 2008 and the first branded store opened in 2010, but it was already looking for a way out by 2011. That's when it closed its UK stores and paid Carphone Warehouse $1.3 billion for its share in the US Best Buy Mobile business. Reporting the joint venture as discontinued operations for its next fiscal year will cause Best Buy to take a $200 million charge, and it's tossing Carphone Warehouse another $45 million to satisfy outstanding obligations like closing the Global Connect JV the two started in 2011. There's no word on any moves for its business in Mexico, Canada and China, and CEO Hubert Joly says this sale "should not suggest any similar action" elsewhere.

Leap Motion Hack Brings A Facebook Home Experience To The Desktop

IMG_7259One of the hacks at Disrupt NY's Hackathon this year employed hardware startup Leap Motion's new 3D gesture controller, which unfortunately just ran into a delay. Leap Motion's issues aside, this project, the combined effort of Chao Huang, Cedrich Pinson and Jorge Martinez, brings a Facebook Home-style experience to the desktop.

CSN: Phillies' bats spoil shaky Marcum's 2013 debut

NEW YORK -- When it comes to offensive production, the Phillies? outfield has been a sinkhole during the first month of the season.

Phillies outfielders entered Saturday afternoon?s game against the Mets at Citi Field with the second-worst combined on-base and slugging percentage (.562) in the majors. Only the Miami Marlins? outfield at .548 had a worse OPS than the Phillies outfielders.

It was a long time coming, but the Phillies finally got some thunder from their outfield in beating the Mets, 9-4, Saturday (see Instant Replay).

Domonic Brown, John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix combined for four hits and five RBIs in 13 at-bats. Brown and Mayberry both homered to key a five-run fifth inning.

?That?s definitely good,? manager Charlie Manuel said. ?That?s what we?ve been waiting for. We?ve got to get it more often.?

Mayberry started in center field as Ben Revere got his third day off with a strained left quad muscle. It?s not clear which is hurting more, Revere?s quad or his batting average (.207) and on-base percentage (.242). It?s likely that Revere will get another day off Sunday as Manuel could stick with the right-handed hitting Mayberry against Mets? lefty Jonathon Niese.

Eventually, the Phillies will insert Delmon Young into their outfield. He?s in the home stretch of his rehab from offseason ankle surgery. Young is currently playing on minor-league rehab at Triple A Lehigh Valley. He got a planned day off Saturday night.

The Phillies arrived in New York after three straight losses to the Pittsburgh Pirates. They scored just seven runs in those three games and were a dreadful 4 for 29 with runners in scoring position.

In two games against the Mets -- both wins -- the Phils have scored 13 runs while going 7 for 18 with runners in scoring position.

?We?ve got to do better,? Brown said. ?This is more like we?re capable of.?

Most of Saturday?s offense came at the expense of Mets? right-hander Shaun Marcum, who lasted just four innings in his first start of the season, and lefty reliever Robert Carson, who was tagged for four hits and five runs in the fifth inning.

All this offense helped make a winner out of 22-year-old Jonathan Pettibone in his second big-league start. Pettibone was not sharp -- he threw 96 pitches in five innings -- but he protected the lead well, minimized damage and picked up his first big-league win.

He even came away with a souvenir from the game. As he spoke with reporters he reached into his locker and produced a ball that looked as if it had been retrieved from the bottom of nearby Flushing Bay.

Ah, the ol? fake game ball trick.

As Pettibone laughed about the fake game ball, equipment man Phil Sheridan was gathering up an official scorecard and some legitimate game balls to give Pettibone a proper souvenir from his first win.

?It was definitely a battle from the first pitch on,? Pettibone said. ?My teammates picked me up.?

Pettibone, called up when John Lannan went on the disabled list, has earned another start.

?He?s in our rotation right now,? Manuel said. ?He deserves it.?

The Phillies, 11-14 on the season, are 4-11 in games started by Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee. They are 7-3 in games started by Pettibone, Lannan and Kyle Kendrick.

?Someone is going to pay for that,? Manuel said. ?Our top three starters will get hot.?

Pettibone actually helped the offense with his first big-league hit, a single that started a three-run rally in the third.

On the mound, he survived allowing three straight runners to open the fourth. He allowed just a sacrifice fly to keep things in check.

The Phillies? offense did its most damage in the fifth inning. Jimmy Rollins doubled and Michael Young walked with one out. Ryan Howard then came up and scorched a one-hopper toward shortstop Ruben Tejada. If Tejada comes up with the ball, it?s a double play. He did not come up with it, however. Rollins screened him just enough and the ball rocketed into the outfield for an RBI hit. Brown (a three-run blow) and Mayberry (a solo shot) followed with homers off Carson to give the Phils an 8-2 lead.

Howard has hit the ball hard in both games. He crushed a long homer to center in Friday night?s game.

If Tejada had been able to handle Howard?s smash in the fifth inning and start a double play, it could have been a backbreaker.

Manuel was more than happy to take the hit.

?That?s baseball,? he said. ?Sometimes things go your way. The other day, Cliff Lee pitched real well but gave up a couple Texas Leaguers. There?s a lot of luck in baseball. You can?t put a percentage on luck. There?s a lot of things that happen in a game that comes down to inches. When you?re going bad those little things can go against you.?

The Phillies? offense will get another boost Sunday when Carlos Ruiz returns from suspension (see story). Manuel said Ruiz would hit fifth or sixth in the lineup.

?He got a lot of big hits for us in the clutch last season,? Manuel said. ?We?re going to be better when he?s back. The guys here have done a good job, but Chooch is our regular catcher.?

Senators beat Bruins 4-2 to grab No. 7 seed

BOSTON (AP) ? Ottawa Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson said he's always wanted to face the Montreal Canadiens in the playoffs.

Or was he just trying to avoid the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins?

"We talked about mostly finishing better than last year," Alfredsson said after the Senators beat Boston 4-2 in the NHL's rescheduled regular-season finale on Sunday night to earn the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference.

"We were eighth last year, so to win here the last game and finish seventh it feels really good. We improved on last year, and that's what we wanted."

Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:34 to play, and Kyle Turris added an empty-netter to help Ottawa win the game that was originally scheduled for April 15, the day of the Boston Marathon bombings.

It was the only NHL game on Sunday, with the rest of the league wrapping up the regular season by Saturday.

The victory pushed the Senators past the New York Islanders and into seventh in the East, helping them avoid the Penguins in the first round.

Ottawa opens the series in Montreal on Thursday.

"I think it will be a great series," Alfredsson said. "The Bell Centre is one of the most exciting buildings to play in. It's a great hockey town as well. ... I think it's going to be an unbelievable atmosphere in both arenas, and I'm looking forward to a hard-fought series."

The Islanders will face Pittsburgh in the first round. The Bruins could have won the Northeast Division and earned a No. 2 seed with a win, but they finished fourth in the East and will play Toronto in the first round starting Wednesday in Boston.

"We wanted to win tonight to clinch the division," Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk said. "Now it doesn't matter. We have to move forward for the playoffs."

Boston has not faced the Maple Leafs in the postseason since the first round of the 1974 playoffs. It is the only matchup of Original Six teams in the first round.

"You want to get the No. 2 spot, but at the end it doesn't matter," said defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, who scored just 14 seconds into the third period to tie it 2-all.

"We still have home ice advantage in the first round, and the first round is always the toughest one to get out of. Everything else doesn't matter now."

Robin Lehner stopped 34 shots for the Senators, who had not beaten Boston in their previous 14 tries.

Tuukka Rask made 18 saves for Boston, which had won two straight division titles. He was pulled with about a minute left, but the Bruins couldn't muster any pressure before Turris' empty-netter with 37 seconds to play.

Pageau also assisted on Erik Condra's goal that made it 1-0 with 3 minutes left in the first period. Jared Cowen scored midway through the second to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead.

But the Bruins scored twice in 18 seconds of clock time ? on Rich Peverley's goal with 3.4 seconds left in the second period and again on Seidenberg's goal 14 seconds into the third.

It was still tied when Pageau swept a rebound past Rask to give the Senators a 3-2 lead. The Bruins couldn't manage any pressure with Rask pulled for the final minute, and Ottawa clinched on Turris' empty-netter.

Notes: The Bruins handed out their regular-season awards before the game: Patrice Bergeron was the recipient of the Eddie Shore Award for hustle and determination and the Elizabeth Dufresne Trophy for outstanding performance during home games. Gregory Campbell earned the John P. Bucyk Award for off-ice charitable contributions, and the three stars went to Tuukka Rask (first), Bergeron (second) and Tyler Seguin (third). ... The rescheduled game almost had to be bumped back when the Celtics' 1 p.m. game went into overtime. But the Bull Gang got the basketball floor off the ice in time for the 7 p.m. start. ... All four Northeast Division teams to make the playoffs are facing each other. ... The Senators have never faced Montreal in the playoffs since joining the NHL in 1992.

How To Create a Winning Customer Service for Your Business ...

Ask any corporation or small/medium size business how important customer service is, they?ll tell you it?s everything.

So, how do you create a winning customer service and make sure customers come back time and time again? Using some really simple strategies and remembering to ?do unto others as you want done unto you? are good places to start.

Am I Doing a Great Job for My Customers?

As a general rule, if a customer is not happy with the service they have received from you, they aren?t going to complain, they?re just going to walk away.? Staying on top of your products and business services will help you find problems and correct them before your customers start complaining. Contact your customers and ask them how you are doing!? Ask if they are pleased with their purchase or service.

Send out a survey, call them, have them join in on your Facebook Fan Page.? Setting up a survey on Facebook is very simple to do and will give you a very clear impression on how your customer service is doing. You want to put out any fires before it takes a negative toll on your business.

Thank You ? I Really Appreciate Your Business:

Thank you are two words that are golden to customers.? Whether you send a followup note, give them a phone call or directly face to face, customers like to feel appreciated! Have you ever received a note from a place you purchased from? I bet it made you feel good and you looked forward to doing business with them again. Has that same store or business expressed that if you have any issues, please let them know?? Customers truly appreciate knowing your door is open to them for both positive and negative situations.

I Guarantee You Will Be Thrilled With Your Purchase:

Always stand behind your product!? This day and age, everyone is on the internet and they are talking about their experiences with purchases and business ventures. Word of mouth gets around really quickly and what they are saying about you can make or break you.

Winning new customers will be determined by the feedback your current customers are leaving about you. When you guarantee your product or services and follow up with that guarantee, you have a winning customer service firmly in place. Ask yourself what your refund policy is and is it fair and reasonable. Who are you there for, the company or the customer?

Create An Impression With Customers:

When your customers go to your competition, don?t you want them to expect the same quality of service they received from you? A happy customer expects other businesses to offer up the same customer service they received from someone else.

By continuing to give five-star customer service, you will always exceed their expectations. The only way your competition can take a customer away from you, is by matching or going beyond the service you have provided.

A winning customer service will only happen when you realize the value of your customers and walk in their shoes. Always keeping the customer first and foremost will place you in a position that your competition will have a really tough time living up to.

Ello. I'm sorry I haven't been on in a while, just a bunch of drama and shit going on, but I'm ready to get started. Please reply to this so I know who's still active. :)

I loved her simply because I found her irresistible. Once for all; I knew to my sorrow, often and often, if not always, that I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.

Guide on new oral anticoagulant drugs

Apr. 24, 2013 ? A practical guide on the use of the new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) has been produced by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). A guide was needed to summarise existing information on different drugs, to answer clinical questions that fall outside what drug companies can legally answer, and to make distinctions between the different drugs.

ESC guidelines on atrial fibrillation recommend the NOACs as preferable to vitamin K antagonists for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.1 Companies provide a Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) for their drug but the content is bound by legal restrictions and the information in SmPCs for different NOACs overlaps.

Professor Hein Heidbuchel (Belgium), lead author of the EHRA guide, said: "Companies are bound by legal restrictions in their SmPCs and for physicians in the field the information is often not specific enough. EHRA goes further than the SmPCs and provides expert guidance, often admittedly based on incomplete data, on what to do in specific clinical situations."

He added: "We have brought together information on all the NOACs in one document so it's clear for physicians what the similarities and differences are. We worked closely with the drug companies to make sure that all of the information in the SmPCs is also in our document."

The paper provides practical advice on how to handle 15 clinical scenarios. The full paper is published today in EHRA's official journal, EP-Europace, and the executive summary is published online in European Heart Journal.

The clinical situations include how to initiate and monitor NOAC use, how to measure the anticoagulant effect if needed in specific situations, switching between anticoagulants, ensuring compliance, patients with chronic kidney disease and management of bleeding complications.

NOACs remove the regular monitoring of anticoagulation level that was required for the vitamin K antagonists. But Professor Heidbuchel said: "Compliance is very important for the novel anticoagulant drugs because they have a very short half-life. That means that if you don't take them you will not be protected by anticoagulation and are at greater risk of thromboembolic events."

The document provides tips on how to improve compliance. These include educating patients about the drug's short half-life, and that small minor bleeding such as a nose bleed will stop by itself and patients should continue taking the drug. Compliance can also be improved with a pre-specified follow up scheme.

The guide does not cover the indications for switching from a vitamin K antagonist to a NOAC but it does advise how to switch safely. Professor Heidbuchel said: "We have learned from the big trials that these moments of transitioning from one anticoagulant to another can be dangerous in the sense that patients can be under-anticoagulated."

He added: "The bleeding risk profile of the NOACs is definitely better than that of vitamin K antagonists. Nevertheless bleedings will occur and so our practical document has outlined what action should be taken."

Professor Stefan Hohnloser (Germany), a reviewer of the EHRA guide and a member of the ESC atrial fibrillation guidelines task force, said: "The updated ESC guidelines on the treatment of atrial fibrillation recommend the NOACs to be used rather than the vitamin K antagonists. Like all new drugs these drugs have pitfalls -- for example they are excreted via the kidneys and therefore physicians need to measure renal function regularly. Physicians who follow the practical advice in this guide will dramatically improve the safety of their patients."

Senate passes bill to ease FAA furloughs

(AP) ? With flight delays mounting, the Senate approved hurry-up legislation Thursday night to end air traffic controller furloughs blamed for inconveniencing large numbers of travelers.

A House vote on the measure was expected as early as Friday, with lawmakers eager to embark on a weeklong vacation.

Under the legislation, the Federal Aviation Administration would gain authority to transfer up to $253 million from accounts that are flush into other programs, to "prevent reduced operations and staffing" through the Sept. 30 end of the fiscal year.

In addition to restoring full staffing by controllers, Senate officials said the available funds should be ample enough to prevent the closure of small airport towers around the country. The FAA has said it will shut the facilities as it makes its share of $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts that took effect last month at numerous government agencies.

The Senate acted as the FAA said there had been at least 863 flights delayed on Wednesday "attributable to staffing reductions resulting from the furlough."

There was no immediate reaction at the White House, although administration officials participated in the negotiations that led to the deal and evidently registered no objections.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, a key participant in the talks, said the legislation would "prevent what otherwise would have been intolerable delays in the air travel system, inconveniencing travelers and hurting the economy."

Senate approval followed several hours of pressure-filled, closed-door negotiations, and came after most senators had departed the Capitol on the assumption that the talks had fallen short.

Officials said a small group of senators insisted on a last-ditch effort at an agreement before Congress adjourned for a vacation that could have become politically problematic if the flight delays continued.

"I want to do it right now. There are other senators you'd have to ask what the hang-up is," Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., said at a point when it appeared no compromise would emerge.

For the White House and Senate Democrats, the discussions on legislation relating to one relatively small slice of the $85 billion in spending cuts marked a shift in position in a long-running struggle with Republicans over budget issues. Similarly, the turn of events marked at least modest vindication of a decision by the House GOP last winter to finesse some budget struggles in order to focus public attention on the across-the-board cuts in hopes they would gain leverage over President Barack Obama.

The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, a union that represents FAA employees, reported a number of incidents it said were due to the furloughs.

In one case, it said several flights headed for Long Island MacArthur Airport in New York were diverted on Wednesday when a piece of equipment failed. "While the policy for this equipment is immediate restoral, due to sequestration and furloughs it was changed to next-day restoral," the union said.

It added it was "learning of additional impacts nationwide, including open watches, increased restoration times, delays resulting from insufficient funding for parts and equipment, modernization delays, missed or deferred preventative maintenance, and reduced redundancy."

The airlines, too, were pressing Congress to restore the FAA to full staffing.

In an interview Wednesday, Robert Isom, chief operations officer of US Airways, likened the furloughs to a "wildcat regulatory action."

He added, "In the airline business, you try to eliminate uncertainty. Some factors you can't control, like weather. It (the FAA issue) is worse than the weather."

In a shift, first the White House and then senior Democratic lawmakers have signaled a willingness in the past two days to support legislation that alleviates the budget crunch at the FAA, while leaving the balance of the $85 billion to remain in effect.

Obama favors a comprehensive agreement that replaces the entire $85 billion in across-the-board cuts as part of a broader deficit-reduction deal that includes higher taxes and spending cuts.

One Senate Democrat, Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, noted that without the type of comprehensive deficit deal that Obama favors, a bill that eases the spending crunch at the FAA would inevitably be followed by other single-issue measures. She listed funding at the National Institutes of Health as one example, and cuts that cause furloughs of civilians who work at military hospitals as a second.

At the same time, Democratic aides said resolve had crumbled under the weight of widespread delays for the traveling public and pressure from the airlines.

Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., involved in the discussions, said the issue was big enough so "most people want to find a solution as long as it doesn't spend any more money."

Officials estimate it would cost slightly more than $200 million to restore air traffic controllers to full staffing, and another $50 million to keep open smaller air traffic towers around the country that the FAA has proposed closing.

Across the Capitol, the chairman of the House Transportation Committee, Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa., said, "We're willing to look at what the Senate's going to propose."

He said he believes the FAA has the authority it needs under existing law to shift funds and end the furloughs of air traffic controllers, and any legislation should be "very, very limited" and direct the agency to use the flexibility it already has.

In a reflection of the political undercurrents, another House Republican, Rep. James Lankford of Oklahoma, said FAA employees "are being used as pawns by this (Obama) administration to be able to implement the maximum amount of pain on the American people when it does not have to be this way."

The White House and congressional Democrats vociferously dispute such claims.

Nintendo's Miiverse gets mobile access, web interface

Littered among Nintendo's promises for the year were plans to take Miiverse, the company's social platform, to the next level. That starts today, with the company launching a web portal for the community. Wii U owners can now access their Miiverse activity feed, user menu, notifications and communities through miiverse.nintendo.net using the same login information they created when they first set up their home console. The experience is limited for now, users can comment on and Yeah! (Miiverse's take on "like") existing posts, but can't create new threads. In addition to being Nintendo's first public foray into the social space, it also marks the first time the company has used its Nintendo Network ID outside of the Wii U ecosystem. According to the company's Twitter account, Nintendo considers this a beta expereince, and has said in the past that a dedicated Miiverse app and 3DS access will be available in the future. For now, Nintendo's social legions will have to settle for a web-based experience -- it may seem like a slow start, but for Nintendo it's a giant leap forward.

Bird strain is 'one of most lethal' flu viruses

By Sui-Lee Wee and Kate Kelland

BEIJING/LONDON (Reuters) - A new bird flu strain that has killed 22 people in China is "one of the most lethal" of its kind and transmits more easily to humans than another strain that has killed hundreds since 2003, a World Health Organization (WHO) expert said on Wednesday.

The H7N9 flu has infected 108 people in China since it was first detected in March, according to the Geneva-based WHO.

Although it is not clear exactly how people are being infected, experts say they see no evidence so far of the most worrisome scenario - sustained transmission between people.

An international team of scientists led by the WHO and the Chinese government conducted a five-day investigation in China, but said they were no closer to determining whether the virus might become transmissible between people.

"The situation remains complex and difficult and evolving," said Keiji Fukuda, the WHO's assistant director-general for health security.

"When we look at influenza viruses, this is an unusually dangerous virus for humans," he said at a briefing.

Another bird flu strain - H5N1 - has killed 30 of the 45 people it infected in China between 2003 and 2013, and although the H7N9 strain in the current outbreak has a lower fatality rate to date, Fukuda said: "This is definitely one of the most lethal influenza viruses that we've seen so far."

Scientists who have analyzed genetic sequence data from samples from three H7N9 victims say the strain is a so-called "triple reassortant" virus with a mixture of genes from three other flu strains found in birds in Asia.

Recent pandemic viruses, including the H1N1 "swine flu" of 2009/2010, have been mixtures of mammal and bird flu - hybrids that are more likely to be milder because mammalian flu tends to make people less severely ill than bird flu.

Pure bird flu strains, such as the new H7N9 strain and the H5N1 flu, which has killed about 371 of 622 the people it has infected since 2003, are generally more deadly for people.

UNSETTLING

The team of experts, who began their investigation in China last week, said one problem in tracking H7N9 is the absence of visible illness in poultry.

Fukuda stressed that the team is still at the beginning of its investigation, and said that "we may just be seeing the most serious infections" at this point.

Based on the evidence, "this virus is more easily transmissible from poultry to humans than H5N1", he said.

Besides the initial cases of H7N9 in and around Shanghai, others have been detected in Beijing and five provinces. On Wednesday, Taiwan's Health Department said a businessman had contracted H7N9 while travelling in China and was in a serious condition in hospital.

Samples from chickens, ducks and pigeons from poultry markets have tested positive for H7N9, but those from migratory birds have not, suggesting that "the likely source of infection is poultry", said Nancy Cox, director of the influenza division at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

John Oxford, a flu virologist at Queen Mary University of London, said the emergence of human H7N9 infections - a completely new strain in people - was "very, very unsettling".

"This virus seems to have been quietly spreading in chickens without anyone knowing about it," he told Reuters in London.

Flu experts say it is likely that more cases of human infection with H7N9 flu will emerge in the coming weeks and months, at least until the source of infection has been completely confirmed and effectively controlled.

Anne Kelso, the Melbourne-based director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza said there has been a "dramatic slowdown of cases" in the commercial capital of Shanghai, which has recorded most of the deaths, something she described as "encouraging".

After Shanghai closed down its live poultry markets in early April, there was an almost immediate decline in new H7N9 cases, she said. "The evidence suggests that the closing of the live poultry markets was an effective way to reduce the risks."

Even so, the WHO's China representative, Michael O'Leary, issued figures last week showing that half of the patients analyzed had no known contact with poultry.

MetroPCS reveals Q1 earnings, will make TMobile merger official April 30th

By now, you're probably aware that MetroPCS shareholders voted in favor of a merger with T-Mobile, and with regulatory red tape out of the way, both companies are now set to become one on April 30th. Now, MetroPCS has laid its Q1 2013 financials bare, which provides us with an excellent peek at T-Mobile's future partner. First off, the company is making money, and its operational income is actually rising, but it's also dealing with increased costs from loans, taxes and the like. Overall, MetroPCS reported a net income of $19.4 million for the first quarter, which is down from $21 million just one year ago.

Speaking of loans, MetroPCS has a ton of them. Its liabilities now sit at $10.3 billion, and its managed to take on $3.4 billion in financing during the last year alone. From a balance sheet perspective, 75 percent of the company's assets exist as debt, and this is a burden that T-Mobile must now take on. Naturally, much of this merger was in effort to score additional spectrum, but Ms. Magenta also stands to gain 9 million new customers once the deal completes, 39 percent of which are LTE subscribers. Better yet, with a churn rate of 2.9 percent, they're sticking around now more than any previous time in company history.

If you decide you want to sell handcrafted items online, you might not be sure how to set up your website to do so. For an e-commerce site, you will need to set up a shopping cart system. Keep in mind that not every web hosting company will give you this ability. There are other capabilities you want to check on before choosing a web host, so read on.

Switching to using a dedicated server can help meet your web hosting requirements. Dedicated servers are more secure. You can also get more disk space and bandwidth on a dedicated server. This ensures that visitors have no problems when visiting your site. Satisfied customers are more likely to continue using your services and are more likely to order more products.

When choosing a host for a site that needs more traffic, choose a host that has SEO features. A SEO feature will allow your site to be registered with multiple search engines. However, it doesn't hurt to register your website on your own time; this allows you to include detailed information and descriptions about the site and its intended purpose.

View the site of the web host you're considering. A poorly done site could mean a "red flag" for the hosting company. Such a website may indicate an inexperienced, incompetent or illegitimate provider. A well-designed, informative, and professional-looking site indicates a company's attentiveness to detail and their experience with web design.

Don't choose a host only because of their prices. You should consider all of the various features and options. A good price is not enough, so hold out for the option that best fits your situation. Your final choice should meet ALL of your needs, not just price.

Find out a web hosting company's history before choosing to use them. Make sure they've been around awhile and have a good background. You should make sure that the web hosting company has been in business for a minimum of a year. What would you do, after all, if your hosting company went out of business?

Before any final decision is made about a hosting site, be sure to learn about their safety and security features. You want to make sure that they provide a strict service that prevents hackers from accessing your site and information. A reputable host will back up their servers often.

When choosing a web host, make sure you find one that will quickly respond to your inquiries. Choose a host that communicates with its customers and answers any questions and notifies them of any important information. It is also important to have a hosting provider that can answer your questions should any problems arise.

Make sure you look at a web hosting company's site very carefully before you sign up with their hosting plan. You should find forums, contact information, and resources like support documentation. Figure out if the host will give you more resources and tutorials as soon as you become their client.

Find out if your web host offers refunds for downtime. You will only be given a small percentage of your monthly bill, likely to be a couple of pennies, and it won't compare to the losses in revenue you face. Choose a web host who has a good track record for uptime as opposed to offering refunds.

Ensure you are able to contact your host in the case of a problem. Web host that offer a variety of contact options are your best bet for getting good customer support. This will save you a lot of headaches, if something should happen.

If you're ever in doubt, look over the above tips to determine if the hosting company you're considering provides you the features that are sensible for your website. Know what you want to avoid over or under paying for hosting features.

Velodyne vTrue

Velodyne is more known for its subwoofers than it is for making headphones, but the Velodyne vTrue takes the company's expertise in deep bass in a new direction. Velodyne refers to the $399.00 (direct) vTrue as a pair of "studio headphones," although we found them to be far too leaky to be considered for serious recording applications. In every other regard, they are solid, though, so we'll review them here as simply high-end, powerful headphones. In that regard, they perform quite well?if you love gobs and gobs of boosted bass and crisp, sculpted highs. Audio purists can probably stop reading now, but if you're looking for a powerful, bass-heavy headphone pair, the vTrue is a strong option.

Design
The vTrue headphones are strikingly designed, with an aluminum contour on the earcups and a brown padded leather headband and earpads. Everything from the precision-friendly headband slide adjuster to the deep blue padding over the 50mm drivers inside the earcups feels thoughtfully designed. The vTrue strikes out only on a comfort level?these headphones are bulky, and after a while, you're likely to feel some pressure on your scalp.

The audio cables are detachable, and split to connect to each earcup. One included cable has an inline remote and microphone designed for use with Apple iOS devices and all iPods 3rd-generation and up. Both cables are clothbound in deep blue and measure four feet in length.Velodyne vTrue inline

Call clarity through the inline mic is strong enough that your call partner will understand you, and you'll understand them just fine, but it's not excellent?the mic sounds a bit muffled at times, and we're also dealing with cellular fidelity.

Also included with the vTrue: a ?-inch adapter for larger headphone jacks and a black drawstring carrying pouch.

Performance
On tracks with deep, sub-bass content, like the Knife's "Silent Shout," the vTrue is able to show off a bit. Audiophiles seeking flat, accurate response should look elsewhere, as the vTrue is a bass-boosted powerhouse. At maximum volume, the vTrue sounds as if it is just about to distort, but never really reaches the breaking point?and these headphones get quite loud. At safer, more reasonable listening levels, the bass response is intense and clean.

Luckily, Velodyne has the good sense to add some serious mid-high and high frequency tweaking so the sound signature isn't a muddy, undefined mess. On Bill Callahan's "Drover," the vTrue graces his vocals with a nice treble edge which helps it stand front and center in the mix. This is important, because the boosted bass response arms the constant drumbeat with some serious low-end thunder, making it also stand out quite a bit. Without the sculpted treble, his vocals would get lost and the mix would be too focused on the low-mids and lows.

Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild" benefits from the high frequency sculpting, as well?the kick drum loop has a nice punchy attack, while the sub-bass synth hits that sit beneath the loop in the mix are delivered with some serious throttle. The vocals in this dense mix stand out in the same way Callahan's do on his track?the crisp edge they get from the vTrue helps separate them from the powerful lows and mids.

Classical tracks, like John Adams' "The Chairman Dances," can sound a tad too tweaked and sculpted. The highs are boosted, which occasionally makes the higher register strings and brass sound a bit too bright, but the lower register strings absorb the added bass response nicely. The large drum hits at the end of track sound a bit too bass-boosted, however?almost as if they are amplified instead occurring naturally in a concert hall.

In other words, these headphones don't offer a flat response in any sense?there's tons of bass, and lots of liberties are taken with the high-mids and highs, as well. The result is something bass lovers will enjoy and purists will probably want to avoid. If you're looking for headphones in the price range with a bit less boosting in the lows, the?Sennheiser Momentum?is a solid option and less bulky, while the TDK ST750 is a powerful pair that focuses more on the high-mids and highs.?If you like big bass, but the vTrue's price tag is too high, the?Denon Urban Raver AH-D320?offers a similar sound signature for a significantly lower price. And if it's a true studio headphone pair you seek, you can spend quite a bit less and still have top quality?Sennheiser's HD 280 Pro?is an excellent flat response option. The Velodyne True offers clean, bold performance with booming low-end, and it comes with two top-notch, detachable cables?if it were less expensive, it would get a higher rating.

NASA successfully launches three smartphone satellites

Apr. 22, 2013 ? Three smartphones destined to become low-cost satellites rode to space Sunday aboard the maiden flight of Orbital Science Corp.'s Antares rocket from NASA's Wallops Island Flight Facility in Virginia.

The trio of "PhoneSats" is operating in orbit, and may prove to be the lowest-cost satellites ever flown in space. The goal of NASA's PhoneSat mission is to determine whether a consumer-grade smartphone can be used as the main flight avionics of a capable, yet very inexpensive, satellite.

Transmissions from all three PhoneSats have been received at multiple ground stations on Earth, indicating they are operating normally. The PhoneSat team at the Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif., will continue to monitor the satellites in the coming days. The satellites are expected to remain in orbit for as long as two weeks.

"It's always great to see a space technology mission make it to orbit -- the high frontier is the ultimate testing ground for new and innovative space technologies of the future," said Michael Gazarik, NASA's associate administrator for space technology in Washington.

"Smartphones offer a wealth of potential capabilities for flying small, low-cost, powerful satellites for atmospheric or Earth science, communications, or other space-born applications. They also may open space to a whole new generation of commercial, academic and citizen-space users."

Satellites consisting mainly of the smartphones will send information about their health via radio back to Earth in an effort to demonstrate they can work as satellites in space. The spacecraft also will attempt to take pictures of Earth using their cameras. Amateur radio operators around the world can participate in the mission by monitoring transmissions and retrieving image data from the three satellites. Large images will be transmitted in small chunks and will be reconstructed through a distributed ground station network. More information can found at: http://www.phonesat.org

NASA's off-the-shelf PhoneSats already have many of the systems needed for a satellite, including fast processors, versatile operating systems, multiple miniature sensors, high-resolution cameras, GPS receivers and several radios.

NASA engineers kept the total cost of the components for the three prototype satellites in the PhoneSat project between $3,500 and $7,000 by using primarily commercial hardware and keeping the design and mission objectives to a minimum. The hardware for this mission is the Google-HTC Nexus One smartphone running the Android operating system.

NASA added items a satellite needs that the smartphones do not have -- a larger, external lithium-ion battery bank and a more powerful radio for messages it sends from space. The smartphone's ability to send and receive calls and text messages has been disabled. Each smartphone is housed in a standard cubesat structure, measuring about 4 inches square. The smartphone acts as the satellite's onboard computer. Its sensors are used for attitude determination and its camera for Earth observation.

The PhoneSat mission is a technology demonstration project developed through the agency's Small Spacecraft Technology Program, part of NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate. The directorate is innovating, developing, testing and flying hardware for use in future science and exploration missions. NASA's technology investments provide cutting-edge solutions for our nation's future. For more information about NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate, visit: http://www.nasa.gov/spacetech
